Talking About Bathroom Scale
The talking bathroom scale is a recent innovation. In the beginning there was the analog bathroom scale. A dial twirled round to the number on the scale and told your weight. These early scales were hard to read and not as accurate as today's digital scales. The large numbers of the LED digital scale were a big help to the visually challenged. However, for the severely visually impaired even a large LED screen may not be enough.
The talking bathroom scale provides a convenient and easy method to weigh you. For those who are not visually impaired the talking scale can still be useful. Frequently, when you first wake up in the morning your vision is slightly blurry. This is due to your eyes drying out during the night. Now you don't have to wait for your eyes to moisturize.
Just step on the scale and hear:
"Hello"
"Ready"
"You Weigh 104 kilograms"
I love weighing myself in kilograms! it makes me sound so light! Most scales come with the ability to tell you your weight in kilograms or pounds.
Some factors to consider when you are shopping for a talking bathroom scale:
Ease of use - most scales are easy to use and turn on with a tap of the toe
Power Supply - most scales use AA or 9 volt batteries. some will use lithium which can be slightly more expensive but last longer. Be wary of models that use AAA batteries as these may not last as long. A good battery should last approximately one year.
Talk On or Off - you may want a scale that doesn't blab all the the time
Readable digital LED display - even though you can hear the weight its nice to see the numbers too.
Body Fat Measurement - some models can measure your body fat percentage as well as your weight. This is very useful if you are embarking on a fitness or weight loss program.
Degree of accuracy - Most scales can weigh within 1/10 of a pound of the actual weight. This is one advantage digital bathroom scales have over analog. They are more accurate.
Scale size – You want a scale that has a platform large enough to stand on comfortably without losing you balance.
Capacity - If you weigh over 300 pounds you will need a high capacity scale. There are models that can weigh up to 550 pounds available.
Tips for Weighing yourself:
Always weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything.
Never place your scale on carpet. The accuracy will be affected.
Place your scale on a hard firm surface such as the bathroom floor. Most bathroom floors are covered with tile or linoleum. If your bathroom is carpeted try the kitchen floor.
Use a scale that you can stand on comfortably without swaying or wobbling.
For best results place your scale in the same place every time you weigh yourself.
